Advanced Fly Casting School was born in Rome during the year 1987.

Tuition is strictly managed by his founder Piero Letizia, a professional internationally.

The technique taught is the  “PL & EC” (Progressive Lines & Easy Casting) a evolutionary method which allows to easily make complex casts and strategic  presentations.

By way of example, the basic elements are mentioned below

  • Accurately select equipment, paying particular attention to the relationship between the Rod (action, length, power), Line (profile, weight), and Tippet (measure, power), all tailored to the fishing spot and type of fishing

  • Maintain a progressive acceleration during both the back and forward casting actions, ensuring that the power used is never excessive. Work on a wide and straight plane, keeping the rod high in the back and low in the front, presenting the fly first, followed by the tippet, and finally, the fly line

  • Casting actions are performed under tight line control, without any ellipses

  • Different use of the line’s handling hand (always in a high position between 09-10-11 time) in relation with the casting distance need:

    • Up to mt. 20-22 – maintaining the tension between the wider ring of the hand
    • Over mt. 20-22 – starting the use of the specific double acceleration in wide spaces, from 11-10-09 to 06-05, depending on the speed requested
  • Grip the rod handle with the three main fingers, supported by the palm. The main functionalities are as follows:

    • Thumb: Apply power and stop the rod in a vertical position to control narrow loops (micro-loops)
    • Middle and Index fingers: Ensure a secure grip of the handle to manage the rod in various positions, enabling the generation of different and complex presentations
    • Palm: Functions as a pin, providing an additional increase in power
  • Introducing an additional casting action to create complex presentations, including “Mid-Air Mending”, representing the first modern “evolution” in fly casting under the signature of AFCS

A spiral in the air while the presentation is already done is one of the results by the use of  PL & EC casting technique!
One of the Theoretical Training slide concerning the FF Timeline Casting Evolution

Didactics is supported by a theoretical training course based on the rationalization of key concepts that allow effective learning and practical application, in particular

  • Reach an optimal level of casting skill in a short time
  • Acquire elements for ‘self-correction’ during both fishing and practice
  • Be able to make a correct evaluation of the technical equipment

Courses AVAILABILITY

  • Courses are held in Italy, Sweden, and abroad (English language)
  • The number of attendees for basic or advanced courses ranges from one to five
  • The duration of a single course is two days of training

Courses ACCESSIBILITY

  • Classes are typically concentrated on days off from work
  • Affordable cost
  • Special fares for attendees below 18 years
  • Technical equipment provided by the school
